Once More Unto the Breach
More tigers. Less cowbell.
The battle plan (Project 2025) was posted for all to see.
The long battle lines are drawn and have shifted to the United States. The furiously fought siege in the long war between those who are committed to justice, democracy, and freedom and those embracing tyranny, greed, cruelty, and oppression has shifted to the United States.
Knowing that “information” is one of three pillars of any meaningful system of equality, democracy, and justice, in history, the Fourth Estate, that is traditional media and news outlets, might occasionally provide some accurate reporting of the truth. Control of the Fourth Estate, this important pillar has been subverted by the forces of billionaires. Social networks such as Facebook and Twitter, once platforms for the distribution of information from both independent and traditional news and media outlets are now also under the control of billionaires who seek more wealth, power, and control by any means necessary (I talk about a long-term countervailing project to the media consolidation and erosion of the Fourth and Fifth Estate, here).
The extremist takeover of the United States was so certain to the billionaires who fund the Heritage Foundation that the 900+ page comprehensive battle plan, Project 2025, was published online for all to see. While called a “Presidential Transition Plan”, or “Mandate for Leadership” it is nothing more than a blatant plan to weaken and destroy the Federal government and the institutions and guardrails necessary to defend democracy, justice, and equality.

Despite Project 2025 being disavowed by the criminal-elect with lying claims as to his knowledge and involvement of key staff and appointees, the document was written by many Trumpian/GOP anti-democracy zealots, election deniers, and convicts. (see the AP News Story here). Just more lies on an absolute ocean of societal betrayal.

For those who don’t know the history of these anti-democracy domestic terrorists, much of the work to control information through media acquisition and consolidation, the politicization and erosion of the education system, and wealth-concentrating economic policies encouraging tax cuts for the wealthiest, privatization, deregulation, externalities, were addressed in Lewis Powell’s infamous “Confidential Memorandum” to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, written on August 23, 1971. For those wanting to know more about this important document, I wrote about it on the 51st anniversary of its publication: https://bomdia.substack.com/p/confidential-memorandum-94fbf68970c8

There is little cause for optimism in the near-term future of the United States. Those of us who are committed to democracy, justice, and equality must be united, regardless of political party affinity.
Our best hope over the next 21 months is that we can use the resources we still have to defend those most vulnerable to the vicious attacks of the Trump regime, support all AGs and civil organizations using what remains of the judicial system to obstruct and delay the implementation of often illegal, unconstitutional, and immoral policies of the GOP, make visibly clear to forces of democracy throughout the world that the majority of U.S. citizens still embrace equality, democracy, and the rule of law, and build effective political opposition to this criminally corrupt takeover of the U.S.
Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more;
Or close the wall up with our (Democracy) dead.
In peace there's nothing so becomes a (resistance fighter)
As modest stillness and humility:
But when the blast of war blows in our ears,
Then imitate the action of the tiger; … —Shakespeare updated
We must be prepared for losses. Heavy generational losses. Yet we must keep defending and delaying. We must overwhelm every special election in Congress. The GOP/Trump hold on the House of Representatives is thin and precarious.
We will get occasional and temporary victories in the judicial system. However, to expect any type of long-range victory through the system when the Supreme Court of the United States has been subverted is magical thinking. We will lose many court fights on protections: immigrants and dreamers, the environment and climate action, Women’s rights, LGBTQ+ rights, gun violence prevention, voting rights, and more. The exacerbation of wealth inequality and its cancerous impact on democracy is certain to worsen.
Our occasional and important wins will be related to special elections and flipping House seats when possible, the delay of harmful policy in the courts, and, in parallel, building toward the mid-term election cycle in 2026 (if there will be one) and convincing the 60-70 million people who didn’t see a remarkable difference between the criminal-elect and a dedicated public servant to care. In 2026, 33 U.S. Senate seats will be contested, and 20 of those seats are currently held by the GOP.
And as of this writing, the Republicans hold a razor-thin three-seat majority (218 - 215).
We must be able to multitask between effective and meaningful actions and resources to delay and defend -while building a sustainable wave of voters who, beyond all else, embrace the fundamentals of democracy, justice, and equality -regardless of political party. The reason the Trump Cabal wants to pursue revenge against the House Committee investigating the Trump-led insurrection is because it is the very example of those committed to the rule of law putting political differences aside for our nation and our future. Few other things strike fear in the inherently corrupt than a society that is united and working together.

While building a sustainable voter wave toward 2026, we must also prepare our own “Project 2029” -which must comprehensively undue the current and future damage inflicted on the United States since the Reagan era, hold people to criminally and civilly account for the vast damage they have wreaked upon the United States, our partners, and our allies throughout the world. The attack came to the shores of the United States in the form of the Reagan Administration, and there must be a reckoning for the assault on economics, equality, the justice system, and democracy itself.
Finally with a warning of self-promotion, if you made it this far (congratulations and thank you for persevering!) articles, notes, and content I share here on Substack are free. I’m incredibly grateful for all who recommend, share, and quote my continuing efforts (thinking of , and , and others) to help inform and inspire meaningful civic and resistance action. I’m continuing to dedicate the majority of my time to the Civic Works project (https://civ.works).
The work continues based upon people understanding the mission of the project, donating to the effort, and providing more visibility for the effort with progressive organizations, journalists, elected officials, and potential allies.
The main focus of Civic Works is: We are building an ad-free, subscriber-supported (think Netflix for Democracy!) civic social network, built for civic action and education. We will carefully use AI for preemptive content moderation and to help facilitate respectful, fact-based discussions about improving the quality and dignity of life for all. We will partner with trusted third parties for fact-checking and analysis of news and information as a way to combat propaganda. And we will never sell or share our subscriber data as other platforms do. Because civ.works is the product, not you.
I hope you might consider helping to fund the work with a donation through our secure payment processor, Stripe:
